I’m 28, look like a muscular gym bro, but inside I know I’m a girl. What now?

Hey everyone, I’m posting this from a throwaway account because I’m going through a phase that I just can’t handle on my own anymore, and I need to get it out. Hopefully, I can find someone here who went through something similar, or maybe just get a few words of support.

I’m 28 years old. For a few years now, I’ve known deep down that I feel like a girl. For a long time, I heavily suppressed it. My way of "dealing" with it was to start hitting the gym hard. I told myself that if I made myself into a big, masculine dude and packed on a ton of muscle, these feelings would just go away. Spoiler alert: They didn't. The dysphoria was always there, just hidden

behind a wall of muscle.

About a year ago, I finally stopped lying to myself and admitted that I’m most likely trans.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more and more about coming out and actually transitioning, but I’m genuinely terrified. I'm scared of how the people around me will react. I don’t have a girlfriend and haven’t had one in a long time and honestly, I’m realizing now it was mostly because I was subconsciously incredibly jealous of women. Not because of who they were with, but because they are women and get to live life in a body that I want too.

My biggest block right now is the people from my gym. We have a great crew there, but I can’t imagine how the guys would react if I suddenly told them I want to be a woman. There is this one guy, though, who is more empathetic, and I feel like he might understand and take it well. I’m thinking about starting with him, but even just thinking about it makes my knees shake.

Has anyone else here been in a similar spot? How did you handle coming out in a purely "masculine" and performance-driven environment??

Thanks a lot for any comments or advice.
